Premier League Review - Manchester City Easily Beat Liverpool
Following a shock defeat at Sunderland,b>sbo Premier League leaders Manchester City returned to winning ways with a 3-0 victory against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. After unexpectedly losing to a last minute goal at the Stadium of Light just 48 hours earlier, City faced a test of nerve and character which they surpassed easily and they have now opened up a three point lead over rivals Manchester United at the top of the Premier League as they continue their search for their first league title since 1968.
Liverpool, sbo who were without the banned Luis Suarez, enjoyed plenty of possession but lacked creativity and any killer instinct in front of goal as they rarely threatened to score. Pepe Reina, sbo the Liverpool goalkeeper, sbobet then gifted the hosts a goal after just ten minutes when he allowed Sergio Aguero's long range shot into the goal when he should have easily saved. The goal settled any nerves the home side may have had and Aguero could have scored a second goal but his effort went just over the crossbar, Edin Dzeko's shot took a deflection off Liverpool defender Glen Johnson and went just past the post, Reina then redeemed himself for his earlier error with a good fingertip save from Vincent Kompany, however, sbobet from the resulting corner City doubled their advantage as Yaya Toure headed the second goal after thirty three minutes, ensuring the home side enjoyed a two goal advantage at half time.
Manchester City have not lost a home game since December 2010 and since the last home defeat against Everton they have taken a remarkable 55 points out of a possible 57 at the Etihad Stadium in the last year, sbobet the Sky Blues have won all ten of their home matches this season.
Liverpool enjoyed a large percentage of the possession during the second half but failed to make any impression against a resolute City defence, even the introduction of substitutes Steven Gerrard and Craig Bellamy failed to make any difference. The Reds were given some hope when Gareth Barry was sent off after receiving a second yellow card, but any hope of a late revival was extinguished just two minutes later when Martin Skrtel fouled Yaya Toure, sbo James Milner duly scored from the penalty spot to make the score 3-0. Liverpool had two late efforts from Steven Gerrard and Stuart Downing saved by City keeper Joe Hart, while Adam Johnson hit the post which could have seen the home side take a four goal lead.
This was a disappointing night for Liverpool who have aspirations to challenge for the Premier League title themselves, they were well beaten by a City side who now have a points advantage at the top of the League over their rivals United, sbobet the two Manchester clubs will also face each other in the FA Cup this weekend.
